Summer

Journal Entry: Sun Jul 20, 2008, 11:06 AM
  • Mood: Content
  • Listening to: Running water and doors
  • Reading: The Secret Garden
Three days until we break up for five weeks (six, effectively, I think we go back to school on a Friday. How pointless.)

I can't wait, because it means gigs, journeys, friends and painting. Then wandering around in shorts trying to sell the paintings to the man in the gallery who currently has three of my pieces and doesn't have anything to do with them. Any suggestions as to how I can sell them? I need the money for further projects and other "inspirational activities". Yes, I think we'll call them that.

At the moment am trying to persuade my parents into not buying me anything for my birthday, so I can go to Arundel Castle to see 3 Daft Monkeys, Seth Lakeman and The Levellers on the twenty-second of August - the day before my birthday, and in the evening of the twenty-third 3 Daft Monkeys are playing in my hometown so I might get to see them twice. Then they're playing at Hestercombe Gardens (place near here) again in the summer so I might even see them three times. And I met Seth Lakeman at a signing in Exeter where he was promoting his new album, Poor Man's Heaven.
Listen to it, but don't think that all his music is like that: listen to The Punch Bowl, Kitty Jay and Freedom Fields too, and decide if you like it then. He's at the top of the charts and is bringing something he denies is folk to a wider audience. Most of it is folk, whereas his new album drifts away from the folk image slightly. And his live material is highly regarded. But I digress.
Folk music is what might be making this summer into something enjoyable. AND PRETTY DRESSES. Many of which I own. I don't usually do much & we never go anywhere besides the beach, but I can cope with that, because going away for summer seems to take away the element of it that I enjoy.

I'll be a big old Year Eleven student when we go back, and it'll be a year of exams. After that it's on to Richard Huish College, hopefully to study Psychology, Art, Philosophy and English. If I get in. But I don't think I will, I just got my results from the Year Ten mock exams I did in Maths, English, Science, History and French and they're poorer than I expected. I'm achieving well in Art and am predicted good grades, I am capable, but there's something missing. Probably my motivation; we're due a holiday. Just finished two of five days of Work Experience - look who got an evil throat infection - with Magna Housing Association, where my mother works. I expected the office to be far more boring than it was, but the people were friendly enough and I had fun.

Oh, and I've been painting and drawing a lot. Some of it isn't here, but it will be, especially as I'm starting a new Art Textiles project on tattoos and piercings (~tripping-on-this and my father will be of much use here, I think.) I finished the last one but I didn't try very hard, it's poorly made and though the idea & the sketchbook work's of a high standard, I'm expecting a poor grade.

Please read my latest piece of prose, because nobody's commented yet and I need feedback on it, because it's so different and weird compared with what I usually do.

Speak to you all soon

Never a problem.
And no, it doesn't, it would probably make more sense to spell it 'favorite', but we're English and have funny ways. Neither 'favourite' or 'favorite' sound like words now.

Thank you for the Favorite, Always appreciated.
-Does it bother you when I spell it Favorite instead of the More Brittish Favourite?
Just curious.
Thanks again.

WELL I HADN'T LOST IT FOR FIVE MONTHS UNTIL MY FRIEND (aptly named Jake) made me lose it. Now whenever I see him, I lose the game. I even got my teachers playing it.
I have! My username is 'blackenedspoons'. :)
